Aaron Harding - IM Extras

Hi there, my name’s Aaron Harding and I’m responsible for IM Extras, the big plan for this site is so that people will come here for information they can trust 100% which is why I’ve put my own name on the line too.

The idea is to turn this site into a useful resource for beginners and more advanced marketers alike. To start I’ll be drawing on my own experiences to cover web design, SEO and business issues that directly affect marketers and affiliates along with numerous other subjects that I’ve learnt along the way.

Even though I’ve been an ecommerce / internet marketing manager for quite a few years now and a freelance and inhouse web designer for over 10 years I still feel I’m only just out of the starting blocks when it comes to affiliate marketing, which I stumbled across towards the end of 2008. My biggest mistake was that I thought I could still hold a day job, take care of my private clients and learn what was needed to make a full time living in affiliate marketing. It really wasn’t going to happen so in December 2009 I finally shut the doors on my web design business just holding onto a couple of my favourite clients and I’m currently running on short hours in my day job, so basically it’s crunch time.

For all you beginners out there and to hold myself accountable I’m going to keep a progress diary and you’ll be surprised by my first entry, this is to prove I have pretty much started from scratch.

For those of you who might be interested in my background I’ve created a list of what I think is relevant:

1997 – Started using Photoshop
1997 – Learnt my first snippets of HTML and built my first site using Notepad.
1998 – Built my first site for a private client
2000 – Started learning CSS
2000 – Started my own web design business, which soon failed, not only due to the internet bubble bursting but also looking back I really didn’t have a mature business head on my shoulders so switched to taking on clients on a part time basis to learn more.
2001 to Now – Started work with a leading UK pet housing company as their web designer which a few years later (2006) changed to ecommerce / internet marketing manager. Tripling their online sales within 1 year of taking on the role (just short of quadrupling them the second year). Still work there now and would like to think even though I’m making plans to move forward with my affiliate and web design projects I’ll still be allowed to have a small helping hand in their business just to make sure the online side still runs smoothly.
2005 – Started to learn SEO and PPC
2008 – November I stumbled across the Warrior Forum and affiliate marketing
2009 – (December) started learning everything I could about affiliate marketing.
2010 – Officially set up as a business, steady income made from affiliate sales and web design clients, only limited by the time I can spend on those projects due to the day job.
2011 – ?
